Thesis II: Bullets

Binaries: hard/soft, static/biomorphic, handmade/machine fabricated, geometric/organic, pattern/plainness, function/frivolity, maker/wearer
Processes: tape casting, generative/parametric design, laser cutting/etching, hand fabricating/assembling
-Personal adornment/jewelry
-Tiles – the history of tiles, reinterpreting and exploring the tile in a new context
-Digital fabrication/virtual space
-Wearability: is it extreme [Leanie van der Vyer/Naomi Faith/Iris Van Herpen or  more conventionally understood [Francis Bitoni/Amy Tavern/Martin Anderson] ?
-Symmetry
-Layering of pattern/pattern within pattern [Berit Mogensen‘s use of color to create more complex patterns]
-Subtlety in surface treatments [gloss vs. matte], colors [limited palette of grey, white & silver], and patterning [limited introduction of etched patterns]
-Textiles & contemporary quilts [Meg Callahan]
-The relationship between body and environment/what happens when the body and environment are a reflection of one another [Garden State and Francesca Woodman]
-Fragility/preciousness of porcelain – should it be highlighted or hidden?
-Floral motifs/geometric designs of Islamic tiles, lusterware, Izhnik patterns, Moroccan tiles
-Decorative arts
-Geometric shapes
-Volume: draping and re-flattening in virtual space, volume of the human body, volume of the jewelry objects when they are at rest off of the body
-Mobility: UNFOLD Design, Elisa Strozyk
